Bio |
Arthur Beveridge Harris (1843-1932) was the only surviving son of Elizabeth Molony and Captain James Beveridge Harris. In the 1870s he took over the management of the farm at Benares; farming would remain his occupation until his retirement. Arthur was a member of the local militia during the period of the Fenian Raids in the 1860s and was an active member of St. Peter's Church. His aunt, Margaret Patton, described him "fine handsome, gentlemanly, young man". He took his responsibility for the farm at Benares very seriously and left Benares only once, in 1876, when he and his sister Lucy travelled to Great Britain, Scotland and Ireland to visit relatives. Arthur met his wife, Mary Magrath at St. Peter's and the two later married in 1881. They would go on to have three daughters: Annie, Naomi and Margaret. |
