History |
The 204th Battalion, or Toronto Beavers, was a unit part of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) Force active during World War One. Recruitment for the group began on March 14th, 1916 under the command of William Herbert Price. They first sailed to England on March 28th, 1917. The Battalion would later be absorbed into the 2nd Reserve Battalion. The 204th Overseas Battalion was disbanded on September 15th, 1920. This cap badge belonged to Beverley Draper Sayers (1882-1976) of Clarkson. Sayers was a member of the 36th Regiment for several years and was later Commissioned into the 201st (Toronto Light Infantry) Battalion. He was later transferred to the 204 (Toronto Beavers) Battalion and eventually promoted to Captain. Badge was manufactured by Toronto wholesale jewelry business, Ellis & Co. Active between 1852 and 1928 the firm was owned by twin brothers Philip W. Ellis and Matthew C. Ellis. The brothers later joined in 1890 with George Ellis. The business was taken over by Birks after 1928.
