History |
Nadelle Inc., first established in 1933, specialized in the design and manufacture of ladies’ hats and handbags. Their hats were worn by women across Canada, including in Toronto and surrounding areas. Hat donated by Fanny Birdsall (1897–1991). Originally from Toronto, Fanny was a dance teacher who, along with her sister Helen, opened a dance school in Toronto in 1923. Fanny later moved to the Port Credit area in the 1960s, becoming a neighbour of Margaret Lawrence, a board member of the Bradley Museum. The Birdsall sisters were involved in numerous community dance productions, including organizing "Spring-A-Ling No. 2" in the spring of 1970, held at Clarke Hall in Port Credit. Fanny and Helen remained active in the local Mississauga dance scene until 1983. References: McCord Museum, Costume and Textiles, 2016 (Ref: Mississauga Times, March 11, 1970) |
