History |
Mary Horatia Magrath Harris (1859-1954) was the granddaughter of Reverend James Magrath (1769 1851), who was the first rector of St. Peter's Anglican Church in Erindale. She married Arthur Harris in 1881 and together they had three daughters: Annie, Naomi and Margaret (who died at birth). Mary lived most of her life at Benares dying there on January 20th, 1954 at the age of 94. This is an earlier work by friend and artist, Caroline Farncomb. Caroline's later works are characterized by loose brush strokes. Benares has many paintings by Caroline Farncomb including another portrait of Mary done in 1906. |
