Description |
A wooden pickleball paddle with thirty-eight drilled holes on the paddle. Drilled holes measure 0.7 cm or 0.9 cm in width. The wooden square-shaped body tapers near the end. Wooden turned handle measures approximately sixteen cm in length and is wrapped in two different types of guard tape; one plastic and one in a fabric-like material. Handwritten in black marker on the front is the text: Made by John Hoyt who introduced pickleball to Ontario in 1993. Pickleball Mississauga Association 1st President Gary Infeld District 20. |

History |
Early handmade pickleball racquet made by John Hoyt of Mississauga who introduced pickleball to Ontario in 1998. It belonged to Gerry Infeld known as "Pickleball Gerry". Terrance Rozario and Gerry Infeld introduced pickleball to Mississauga at the Mississauga Senior Centre on Cawthra Road. Gerry later served as the president of the Mississauga Pickleball Association for over ten years. The first pickleball tournament for seniors was held at the Hershey Centre in 2010. Gerry has won many tournaments including gold in 2012 at the Ontario 55+ Summer Games with his partner Diane Pounder.
