History |
Item was previously on display at the Civic Centre. The City of Mississauga crest features elements that symbolize the various industries that thrive in the city. The water wheel and lighthouse are used to represent the former Towns of Streetsville and Port Credit. The wheat represents the history of agriculture in the area, the wings refer to aviation industry and the gear represents industry in general. The laurel leaves, found underneath the shield, represent honour and distinction. This crest was the official City of Mississauga logo that was used in the early days of its municipal operation. It was used from 1974 until 1986 when it was replaced by the Civic Mark which featured an image of the Mississauga Civic Centre. The early crest was designed by former Township of Toronto and Town of Mississauga employee Allan Bauldry. |
