Description |
A framed oil painting of Benares bake oven in a brown and dark green wooden frame. Painting shows trees,water pump, potting shed and part of the summer kitchen. "S Erskine, '72" is painted in white near bottom corner. Paper backing is torn and label on back reads, "Four Winds Art Gallery, Oakville, Ontario 845-6451". Wire for hanging is attached to back. |

History |
The following painting was created by Toronto artist, Shirley Erskine, in 1972. The painting was purchased by the donor at a local art show held at Christ Church in Clarkson, Ontario. She purchased the painting because she had an interest in local history and wanted to learn more about the area. She worked as a tour guide at Benares Historic House when it first open up for tours to raise money for a charity. Shirley Erskine studied at Sheridan College, Oakville and the University of Toronto, graduating in 1978. She was awarded "Mississauga's Visual Artist of the Year 1997" and is a renown international artist.
