History |
This basket originally was made and belonged to William Jarvis 'Uncle Willie' Skynner. The basket was meant to hold items for Willie's unborn baby. William married Sarah Keech Gilbert in December of 1890. Sadly both the mother and child died in childbirth in Sudbury, Ontario on May 29th, 1893. Willie would later give the basket to Barbara's mother, Annie Harris. Willie Skynner was the grandson of Commander Skynner whose home is The Anchorage located at Bradley Museum. Barbara Larson recalls "he remained a lonely man who very occasionally visited Benares and I was very fond of him though he teased me and sent me a cabbage and said it was an orchid and that I must take good care of it!" |
