History |
This dress is a great example of a Victorian Era dress with its large skirt (that would have been bell-shaped with the hoop skirt underneath), bell sleeves, bodice top and great detailing. This dress is made of silk in a moire‚ pattern, which gives it a rippled or 'watered' appearance. The dress was donated by Hazel Watson Robertson (1896-1968) and was originally a green colour that has faded. Hazel, originally from Wentworth County, moved to Toronto Township with her husband John during the 1950s. The couple lived in a home located on Ravine Drive in Clarkson.
