History |
This table mat or cover is an example of the many other items that can be created using the quilting process. Smaller items may have been made by young women or girls who were working on their sewing techniques. This is an example of a pieced patchwork quilt which is made from a number of small remnants or scraps of material that may or may not have been arranged into a pattern. This pattern is an example of a Grandmother's Flower Garden as they use scraps of floral fabric and arranged them to resemble flowers. They are characterized as being hexagonal in shape and usually pieced and quilted by hand. Reference: Grandmothers Flower Garden. Tracy Mooney. Quilting Daily.
