History |
This Memorial Cross or Silver Cross was given in memory of Egerton A. Sayers (1890-1918), who was killed in World War I. It was issued as a memento of personal loss and sacrifice on the part of widows and mothers of Canadian soldiers and sailors who died for their country during the war. It was first established by the Order-in-Council 2374 in December of 1919 and was awarded to mothers and widows (next of kin) of Canadian soldiers who died on active duty or whose death was consequently attributed to such duty. Ref: http://www.veterans.gc.ca Egerton was the younger brother of Beverly Sayers, who was married to Annie Harris Sayers. |
