History |
The painting "By the Sea- Nantucket" was given to Barbara Sayers Larson as a wedding gift when she married Melville Gooderham on June 23rd, 1939 at St. Peter's Anglican Church in Erindale, Mississauga. Barbara recalled Caroline being very kind and interested in talking with her as a girl. She had a special affinity for this painting as she said it reminded her of her grandmother, Mary Harris, who was always busy crocheting. She thought the other figure looked like Alice Farncomb although she does not recall her grandmother and Alice taking a trip to Nantucket. This painting may have been painted earlier than Babara's wedding. Reference: 'Caroline Farncomb, Historic Works of Art' exhibition text (2003). |
