Description |
A purple silk machine-sewn bonnet for a child. White netted lace is found around the face while cotton lace is located around the brim and a back ruffle. The inside cap is cream-coloured. The brim is gathered and is stiffened with wire. The back is puffed up and has pleats radiating from a circle at the back of the head. A pleated material is used to tie the bonnet on. |

History |
This bonnet belonged to Olive Harris (1899-1904), Doris's sister. Doris and Olive were daughters of (Margaret) Jane (née Peer) and James Harris who married in 1898. They lived in a wooden framed house built by Jane's grandfather, John Peer, built in 1855. This home is located at 956 Bexhill Road and still stands today.
