History |
A chemisette is a type of underwear worn by women during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Made of either linen, cotton or muslin and sometimes adorned with bits of lace. Used for daywear, they are worn under bodices to cover or fill in low necklines. Often sleeveless they covered the neck, shoulders and breast and could be tied around the waist, tucked into a skirt or pinned to clothing underneath.
