History |
This photograph shows the Harris family living at Benares House c. 1884-1885. Everyone is wearing dark clothing, possibly to show mourning for the passing of James and Elizabeth Harris (1884). Lucy and Bessie Harris, Arthur's sisters, moved from Benares to Toronto after receiving an inheritance from their parents. The photograph is from pre-1888 when Benares was renovated to include the installation of a new verge board and a balcony added to the front. Annie Irwin married Sir Rowland Richard Clegg-Hill, Sixth Baronet and 4th Viscount Hill in 1909. She remained in contact with the Harris family. Reference: Obituary Lord Hill".
