Description |
A colour photograph of Mississauga City Council, 1979-1980. The group of eight men and two are in an unidentified room in Glenforest Secondary School. Mayor McCallion is seated in the centre and wearing a long-sleeved chiffon-like dress. She is also wearing a flower boutonniere. Seated next to her are councillors Harold Kennedy and Frank McKechnie. Standing behind them are councillors Larry Taylor, Ron Starr, Steve Mahoney, Margaret Marland, Fred Hopper, Kenneth Dear and Frank Bean. |

History |
Photograph taken at the inaugural meeting for the 1979-1980 council for the City of Mississauga. The event was held on December 4th, 1978 at Cawthra Park Secondary School and marked the first that Hazel served in the role of Mayor. During her speech, McCallion addressed various goals and objectives including increasing priority for industrial commercial development, gaining voting power in Peel Council, fiscal constraint, the establishment of a Mississauga tourist and convention bureau and a task force on building deficiencies.
