History |
This photo was taken on Dundas Street near Etobicoke Creek in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The photo is of Robert Parton, who was a blacksmith in Summerville, a former village located where Dundas Street crosses the Etobicoke Creek. The first blacksmith shop on this site was built by John Silverthorne in 1816 and was followed by a second structure that was built in 1867 for Isaac Wilcox. The shop was purchased by Robert Parton in 1907 and operated until 1958. The shop was dismantled in 1979. This was the last smithy shop in the Summerville area.
