History |
Photograph shows the current 'Moraguard' building located at 55 City Centre Drive. It was originally constructed in 1972 and served as the computer and head office complex for the Univac Division of Sperry Rand Canada. When Bruce McLaughlin and the McLaughlin Group began to purchase land in Mississauga they envisioned a thriving city centre to be built in the area of Hurontario Street (Highway 10) and Burnhamthorpe Road. From there, the city would develop around this 'downtown' core. The development would house 35 acres of land for industrial use, 150 acres for commercial, and 800 acres for residential. The donor who captured this image worked for both the Toronto Township and Town of Mississauga engineering department and was responsible for designing the crest for the Town. He spent time photographing different areas of Mississauga, especially during times of development. References: McLaughlin's New Deal. Town Offered $1,275,000 Municipal Complex.
