History |
The Rosa Hazel McCallion rose, or Hazel McCallion rose was commissioned by the Mississauga Board of Trade in 2007 to honour Mayor McCallion. The pink mini-floribunda with shades of soft white on the petals originated from Hortico Nurseries in Waterdown, Ontario. Mississauga city council later endorsed the recommendation of having the rose adopted as Mississauga's official flower. The rose was made available for sale in 2009 with a portion of the proceeds going towards the charity Hazel's Hope. McCallion later planted the rose at the city's rose garden located at the Civic Centre, in the Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Garden.
