History |
Photograph is believed to have been taken on November 16th, 1980 at the International Centre in Malton. It was part of the 'Mississauga Day' event during the 'Emergency Preparedness for the Eighties' conference held in Toronto. The City of Mississauga hired a professional agency to display that focused on the train derailment disaster and evacuation that took place in 1979. It also highlighted Mississauga Transit's ERICA computer and system. During the convention, delegates were taken on a bus tour to the site of the derailment. Mayor Hazel McCallion spoke at the conference which featured a panel discussion of others who were key players during the successful and safe evacuation after the accident. The conference was sponsored by the Government of Ontario and the Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO). References: '$40,000 for display' The Mississauga Times, September 10th, 1980.
