History |
Image shows the new concrete Creditview Road bridge that replaced an old metal one. Creditview Road was designated as part of Toronto Township in 1819 as a road allowance between already existing roads (Concession Rd. 3 and 4). It was also originally known as Third Line West. The road allowance was opened as the neighbouring lands were settled for agricultural purposes. Creditview Road offered a way to connect the Township from Streetsville to Meadowvale. In the early 20th century, a wood bridge was built on Creditview Road over the Credit River. The construction of Highway 401 in the northern area of Toronto Township in the late 1950s, caused the construction of the Toronto Township Bridge 14, also called the Creditview Road Underpass. The Creditview Road Underpass provided an important link across the highway corridor and maintained the important historical connections between Streetsville and Meadowvale. The municipality later undertook improvements to Creditview Road by finally paving the road and introducing a sidewalk on the west side. A three-span prestressed concrete girder bridge was completed over the Credit River in 1967. |
