History |
Photograph was taken at the ceremonial inaugural meeting of the 1977-1978 Council for the City of Mississauga which was held on January 4th, 1977. This was the first term Searle served as Mayor. During this short time council approved an official plan to create a downtown core for Mississauga and make it separate from Toronto. Council was also looking into reports on how much money it would save if the City quit itself from Peel Region. They also initiated a plan to create more affordable housing. Searle saw the need to push for more commercial development and guided Council to approve the construction of the Burnhamthorpe bridge at the Credit River. |
