History |
Weavers Brothers Grocery store was one of the oldest businesses that operated in the Lorne Park area. Started in 1932 by Alfred Weaver who was also the local postmaster in the area. The store was located on Lorne Park Road near the railway tracks. Alfred operated it up until 1948 when his two sons, Alf and Tom, took over the business and built a more modern grocery store. The new store had a "modern floor layout. Wide aisles and easy-to-get-at shelves make shopping there as comfortable and convenient as possible. The store is a self-service type. A complete line of groceries, as well as a well-stocked meat counter and vegetable stand, are features of the store." In the 1960s, the Weavers expanded their business. Construction was undertaken to make the store larger and there was a hardware store, pharmacy, grocery store and post office. The people involved in the expansion were Thomas Weaver, Alfred Weaver Jr., Norm Bolton, and Mr. Ellis. They owned the operation up until 1968.
