A colour photograph of Mayor Hazel McCallion and an unidentified Kariya City councillor during the official opening of Kariya Park in July of 1992. Mayor McCallion is wearing a pale yellow suit jacket with a matching skirt and a light blue blouse. On top of her blouse, she is wearing an orange-coloured Jinbaori surcoat; she is also holding a paper umbrella in her hand. Mayor McCallion is standing at the front gates to the park and she is standing next to a Kariya City councillor who is wearing a blue/grey suit with matching tie. |

History |
Photograph taken at the official opening of Kariya Park which occurred on July 7th, 1992. Special guests, including delegates from the city of Kariya, Japan were in attendance for the event. The park is located at Kariya and Webb Drive in downtown area of Mississauga and sits on a 3.2 acre site. It was named after the City of Kariya which Mississauga officially twinned with in 1981. The park included Japanese gardens, bridges, ponds as well as a gatehouse and tea house. References: Mississauga building 4 new parks. Mike Funston.
