History |
Guestbook came from the official opening of the Mississauga Civic Centre. It was formerly on display inside the building from 1987 until 2012. The opening of the Mississauga Civic Centre took place on July 18th, 1987. The Duke and Duchess of York, Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were in attendance. It was commonly thought that Prince Andrew was not impressed with the building as he is quoted as saying, "it's quite remarkable" which the media took to be a sarcastic comment. The opening celebrations were held over four days and included various outdoor performances and activities. The celebrations were organized by a team of 25 volunteers headed by local builder, Harold Shipp. It was estimated that 70,000 people attended the event.
