Diploma of Honour presented to Geffrey H. Sayers from the Erindale community, dated January 15th, 1946. Printed on thick paper with black and coloured ink. The top features an ink colour image of a church in a yellow circle with two flags on either side. The flags are the Union Jack and a small flag, possibly provincial. There is also some gold and red detail on the lettering and many maple leaves on the header and footer. The main script reads: 'Diploma of Honour, presented to Capt. Geoffrey H. Sayers of Lorne Scots. Reg't. by the people of Erindale and district in grateful appreciation of his services in war for freedom 1939-1945. Enlisted April 21, 1945, discharged Oct 11, 1945. Signed on behalf of the community. Thomas L. Kennedy Jan 15 1946'. |
History |
Geoffrey Harris Sayers was recommended for appointment to the Lorne Scots Regiment (Peel, Dufferin, Halton) based out of Brampton. He served with the Canadian Forces from April 21 1941 until October 11, 1945, when he was honourably discharged. The diploma was given to Geoffrey by Thomas Laird Kennedy (1878-1959) who was a politician and Minister of Agriculture. He later served as interim Premier of Ontario. |
