A business card for Eleanor S. Blake, Co-ordinator, Township of Toronto Centennial Office. Printed on white cardstock in blue ink, the card features the Centennial logo — a stylized maple leaf with "1867 1967" — positioned in the top right corner. The printed text reads:Eleanor S. Blake, R.D.M.R. – Co-ordinator – Township of Toronto – Centennial Office. Handwritten in blue ink on the lower proper left corner is the word "over."On the reverse, a handwritten note reads:"Eleanor — thought you might like to have this to add to your collection! History |
Eleanor Blake was a Township Director for youth and women's programs and later worked as a Co-ordinator for the Township's Centennial Office. Later in her career, she served as Co-ordinator for the Park Royals Community Association. In 1968, she was hired as Public Relations Officer for the Town of Mississauga. The Township of Toronto Centennial Committee was first formed circa 1964 to develop, create, and lead various Centennial projects across the township in celebration of the 100th anniversary of Canadian Confederation. Councillor Bob Harrison was selected as Chairman and worked closely with Co-ordinator Eleanor Blake. Centennial activities began in the early morning of January 1st, 1967, with the lighting of the Centennial Flame at Confederation Square. Other events throughout the year included sports tournaments, a winter carnival, talent shows, and a parade and festival.
