History |
Election pamphlet was produced during Mary Fix's election campaign for Toronto Township Reeve in late 1958. During this campaign, she was opposed by former Deputy Reeve and councillor Les Hughes. Mary was already serving as Reeve and had held the office since the end of 1957. She was also serving on the executive of the Ontario Association of Urban Rural Municipalities and a member of the Ontario Mayors' and Reeves' Association. During her campaign, she wrote: "..if elected, I can only say that the people who have followed my course of action can rest assured that I will be happy to continue to work for the progress of the Township with all the energy and optimism of one who loves to serve this Township which as become dearer to me over the years than any place on earth". (The Port Credit Weekly, December 11th, 1958) On election night, held on December 13th, 1958, Mary received 5264 votes while her opponent garnered 4504 votes.
