History |
This booklet or record was created by the Canadian Army and was issued to Clarkson resident, Geoffrey Harris Sayers (1907-1997). The book recorded details of Geoffrey during his service during the Second World War. It includes medical information as well as promotions, courses attended and service details. Geoffrey Harris Sayers was recommended for appointment to the Lorne Scots (P. D. and H. Regiment) based out of Brampton. According to his military file, Captain Geoffrey Sayers served with the Canadian Forces from 21 April 1941 until 11 October 1945, when he was honourably discharged. The Lorne Scots is a military regiment in Peel, Dufferin and Halton regions. The Regiment's origin is traced to the 20th Halton and 36th Peel Battalions of Infantry, both raised in September 1866, but the regiment can be traced even further back to the War of 1812. In 1936, the regiments were amalgamated into the Lorne Scots. The Lorne Scots get their name from the Marquis of Lornes' visit to the 20th Halton Battalion in 1879. They formed a pipe band in 1881 and started wearing the now-iconic tartan trews and diced Glengarries. Since that time, the Lorne Scots have fought in both World War I and World War II. Today the Regiment continues to defend Canada. They have participated in nearly every engagement Canada has sent troops to, including Bosnia, Afghanistan, The Philippians, Ukraine, Jordan, Africa and even domestic operations such as the 1998 Ice Storm, the G8/G20 Toronto Conference, Arctic Sovereignty, the 2017 Quebec Floods.
