A pamphlet or training manual entitled "Brief Notes on War Gases and Spray: how to recognize and what to do", issued by the Canadian Military Headquarters, 1 April 1941. It is pamphlet number 2 '40/P & S/314'. The front of the booklet also reads: 'Every Canadian soldier must carry this in the haversack of his respirator. He must read it until he knows it by heart.' The booklet provides information on all gases and how to use a respirator. |
History |
Pamphlet came with gas mask that belonged to Geoffrey Sayers who served in the Second World War. It provided information about types of various war gases that soldiers had a chance of encountering, identifying them and instructions for protection. Gas warfare was first introduced during World War One at the Second Battle of Ypres in April of 1915 and was commonly used during the second world war.
