A handwritten letter on letterhead to "Miss Mabel Graydon, Streetsville Ontario Canada" from Hattie Graydon. The letter is written on stationary from "Lakeside Hospital, 4147 Lake Avenue, Chicago" where Hattie attended the Training School for Nurses. The letterhead lists all doctors and their specializations. The letter describes a trip to Lincoln Illinois with a patient as well as her work which included massaging invalids, treating patients with electricity and alcohol sponge baths 3 times a day. She also mentioned " The natives seem to think I am a circus in town, as I heard today that I was the first trained nurse to be seen in Lincoln therefore rush our and stare after me...". There letter is written on two sheets of paper and is 3 1/2 pages long. |
History |
A letter from Hattie Graydon to her sister Mabel Graydon dated April 25, 1900. It written after Hattie Graydon (1867-1964) had trained as a nurse at Lakeside Hospital in Chicago. Later she became the first Public Health Nurse for the Province of Ontario. |
